Unexpected Earnings from motorcycle company Harley Davidson Inc.
Source: American City Business Journals Inc.
In the 2nd business quarter of 2003 there was a spike of motorcycle sales from the American motorcycle manufacturer, Harley Davidson. More motorcycles were sold in this quarter than in any other quarter for the past one hundred years. Sales had increased by 200 Million Dollars and 12,000 more Motorcycles were shipped worldwide than the amount of motorcycles transported last quarter. Ten thousand more bikes than last quarter were shipped throughout the United States. Management at Harley Davidson attributed the poor sales to bad weather. Customers may have postponed from buying a motorcycle, in the first quarter, until the weather improved. The company's earnings improved because of price increases, a more diverse mix of motorcycles for sale and profitable currency exchange rates.
